Program Requirements

Any student with a bachelor's degree or a comparable foreign degree from a recognized college or university is eligible to apply for admission. Applicants with the necessary background and a preferred performance level of G.P.A. 3.0 or above may be admitted for graduate work with the recommendation of the program's graduate faculty and approval of the Dean of the Graduate School.  International applicants (and domestic applicants whose native language is not English) are required to provide proof of English language proficiency as a condition of admission.  We require applicants to provide three letters of recommendation. It is strongly recommended that applicants submit their Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. Typically students designate a preference for the history of science and technology or history of medicine tracks.

HSTM Application FAQ

WHEN IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?

December 1 annually.

WHO SHOULD I CONTACT TO TALK ABOUT MY APPLICATION?

Contact the Director of Graduate Studies, Mark Borrello, or the Graduate Program Coordinator, Leah Harman

WHICH TRACK (HMED OR HST) SHOULD I SELECT?

There are two tracks in the Program in History of Science, Technology and Medicine. They should align with your areas of research interest. One track, History of Science and Technology, has slightly different course requirements than the other track. Students in the Science and Technology track select a primary and a secondary field of study and build a course program around that. The History of Medicine track does not have the same two-field requirement. If you are unsure which track to select, contact the Director of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Program Coordinator, or the faculty member you propose to work with.
